1 Kings 19.8
The title for this web site
was inspired by 1 Kings 19.8, an incident in the story of Elijah as
he was fleeing from the powers of the day with a price on his head.
When he was hiding in a cave, an angel brought him some cakes and
drink to give him strength to continue. This site is intended
as a place where any of us modern Elijahs may find a cake in the
midst of our journey, or be an angel and leave a cake for others.
Mission Statement
ecclesicakes
is intended to be a source
of worship and education resources for the church with
the following biases:
Gender, sexual
orientation and power inclusiveness
in language
and in imagery,
Following
Jesus in valuing equally
children,
women and men,
Seeing justice
as integral to the will of God
for all creation,
Liberal (and
bit radical) in theology
and view of scripture.
About Bob
I am an
ordained minister of the United Church of Canada with thirty years
experience in working with congregations as pastor and as presbytery
resource staff. This includes assignments in rural, suburban,
and inner city congregations, and an urban presbytery.
As a pastor,
I enjoyed working with committees to plan and carry out innovative
plans for fulfilling their responsibilities.
As
presbytery staff,
it was my job to enable presbytery committees in setting goals,
designing programs to meet those goals and in taking action to carry
out these programs. These committees covered a wide range of
concerns, including church school, social justice, ethnic ministries,
refugee sponsorship, gender equity, sexual orientation, and
congregational worship.
In retirement,
I find the creative juices still flowing, so I am giving myself the
pleasure of this web page as one of the ways I can continue to
participate in the Jesus Movement.
